Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale season is here! Join us and host a bake sale to support VINE Sanctuary between April 25th and May 3rd, 2015 in your town or community. This is a global event spanning 6 continents that has raised over $300k for a variety of causes.
We have many expenses here at the sanctuary, with more than 500 animals who need fresh food and bedding every day. Holding a #BakeForVINE event would help immensely us with the costs of hay for the cows, feed for the birds, and emergency vet visits.
How to participate in #WWVBS:
- Register your bake sale on the veganbakesale.org site
- Email brandie@bravebirds.org to let her know when and where you plan to hold your bake sale so we can help get the word out on social media and check in after. Include your mailing address, so that we can mail you brochures to pass out at the event.
- If you would like to publicize your bake sale in advance, you can use this flyer.
- After the event, share pics with us and let us know how it went.
- If you raise $50 or more, we’ll send you a free T-shirt!
If you need help with the costs of ingredients and supplies for a vegan bake sale in an area where vegan goods are not widely available, you may be able to get a micro-grant! Email grants@awfw.org to inquire about a grant from A Well Fed World.
Start Planning
Choose a location for your bake sale: somewhere with lots of foot traffic, a park, a school, library, church or temple, outside or inside a community center, or farmer’s markets.
Create an invite on Facebook, Eventbrite or post a blog, create a flyer and add the location, time and that it’s a fundraiser for VINE and ask your friends to hold one in their town.
Make sure everyone who is participating knows that all items must be vegan. Which means no animal products. No eggs, dairy, honey, butter, etc.
Brainstorm some of the items you want to bring and sell at the bake sale, look up tasty recipes to include in a post for anyone interested in joining you.
Make sure you have change, a cash holder, brochures of VINE to have at your table or include with large purchases, baggies, napkins and to kick it up a little bit to-go boxes because sometimes people want one of everything you’ve got! You can buy these at local craft stores such as Micheal’s (actually they will have TONS of awesome dessert supplies such as decorating candies, piping bags, cupcake stands, etc.) or Bed Bath and Beyond.
Please use the Food Empowerment Project’s chocolate list to choose a responsibly sourced option.
Don’t forget to create an ingredient card for each item, make sure to list all allergies especially nuts, seeds, and wheat. Place them next to each dessert and make sure to check with the person who is buying the dessert that they aren’t allergic to “x”.
People are drawn to a cute set ups and will be more likely to come check out your table if it grabs them visually. Here are some links to help people gravitate to your bake sale: Paper Plate Basket one way, Paper Basket second way, The Bird and The Berry Bake Sale, and Modern Bake Sale.
Recipies
Here are some of my favorite recipes:
- Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Donuts: Krispy Kreme Donuts, Cake Batter Donuts, Rasberry White Wine Glazed Donuts, etc.
- Sweet Potato Chocolate Tartlets
- Chocolate Mousse Cupcakes
- Marionberry Lavender Scones
- Fauxstess Cupcakes
- Pineapple Empanadas
- Mexican Wedding Cookies
- 5 Ingredient Vegan Gluten Free Cookies
- Raw Vegan Pumpkin Mini Cheesecakes (GF)
You can try to miniaturize some of the items (like the empanadas) to stretch the ingredients a little further, e.g., for a recipie that yields 7 empanadas, you can make 11 or so. One of my favorite things to make for bake sales are cake donuts, and I bought a little machine to make them for $15 on sale. It was a really great purchase, and I recommend getting one.
This is a great way to kick off the spring season. We hope this piques your interest in hosting a fundraiser of your own. Not sure you can handle the organizing all of the bake sake? Recruit some friends! We look forward to hearing from you! For support and tips for planning a successful bake sale you can email brandie@bravebirds.org
